Maldives (V) - Catch Rpt

I forgot it was a fishing trip...so here's the catch report :-s















I think we set the record for the worst ever fishing trip to Maldives :-) I caught the biggest on Jig and Pop out of the entire trip. Caught 2 more Baraccudas on Jig, but WAYtoo tiny to even snap a pic.

Of course, the biggest overall of the trip came from Bottom (big Ray and Shark) by the other kakis. As for myself, I only caught a baby shark and 1 unstoppable train for 5 minutes with Bottom.

Conclusion, do not go to Maldives in December. Best time is Feb - Apr!! As for boat and organiser, pass if you can. There are much nicer boats in Maldives and we are definitely taking one of those on our NEXT trip back!! See you soon Maldives!! :-)

Maldives (IV) - Fish Market

TUNAS everywhere. And I'm not talking bout the fish market. If you love TUNAS, go stay in Maldives. Everything is TUNA!!! Lunch and dinner, curry TUNA and boiled TUNA. Went to Male to eat, fried rice with TUNA, Fried noodle with TUNA. Went to one of the islands, ordered some cakes/kuih and the fillings were TUNA. Another thing is COCONUT. Breakfast, capati with COCONUT. Cakes and kuihs, COCONUT and TUNA. :-s

Maldives (III) - Tuna Fishing Maldives Style

This is the Maldivian's traditional tuna fishing method. There'll be 2 person, 1 on each side of the boat, who will be constantly baiting the water by throwing live sardines. And the sprinkler at the edge of the boat creates constant vibration on the water surface giving an impression that there's a feeding frenzy going on. While the tunas are gathered at the back of the boat, the fishermen lining up at the back will fish the tunas with their long pole. Once they hook on to a tuna, they will have to keep it on the surface and with a swift jerk, swing it to the back of the boat. And because the hooks are barbless, the tunas will just drop onto the deck while the fisherman lower their pole back to the water waiting for the next hit.

















These buggers are strong! Once they take the bait, if they manage to dive down, you'll be so screwed! I hooked one which dived, and I couldn't lift it up even with 4 people on the pole. Not to mention the water is kinda choppy and you are standing at the edge of the boat on extremely slippery surface, without live jacket, and you have a pack of hungry fishes in the water. Hmm...what was I thinking??

Maldives (II) - The Beginning

The 'Kakis'. Around 60% of the 'Kakis' wore Crocs!!














Aroma Boat. Decent size, but not decent enough for 24 'kakis'. Spent my first 2 nites on the upper deck with my sleeping bag cos it's more windy. Only downside is, it's like a roller coaster up there!












No wonder they call it paradise...everywhere you turn, it's crystal clear water and fine white sand. And the resorts are just 'OMG'!!

Our stupid stupid flight (including stopover & transit) took 12 long bloody hours!!! KL - S'pore - Colombo - Male!!

There were 3 kakis who took MAS direct flight, 3.5 hours only!!
















Finally arrived in Male. My photographer's hand also shaky already!!
